В музеях стран Европы мероприятия «Ночь в музее» организуются по инициативе Международного совета музеев (ICOM). Мероприятия приурочены к Международному дню музеев, который отмечается 18 мая с 1978 года в 150 странах. В «Ночную акцию музеев Европы» включилось более 40 государств.

По окончании работы музея ворота Тракайского замка остаются открытыми, а прибывших посетителей встречает необыкновенное зрелище. Сотрудники музея и участники мероприятия, энтузиасты истории одеваются в средневековую одежду. На территории предзамковой части в большом дворе вдоль оборонительной стены располагаются ремесленники, купцы, вокруг кипящих котлов кружат повара — всё воссоздаёт настоящую средневековую обстановку. С наступлением вечера пространство освещают факелы и свечи, электричество применяется минимально. В покоях замка идет нетрадиционная музейная жизнь: можно встретить пишущего картину художника, роскошных придворных, можно присесть и сыграть партию шахмат с князем либо поделиться мыслями с монахом. Здесь же ходит палач, клоун и другие исторические персонажи.

Во время мероприятия в предзамковой части и в репрезентационном зале проходят рыцарские турниры, концерты, спектакли. Во время праздника свершается и ритуальный обряд — театрализованное пожертвование озеру Гальве.Для интересующихся историей организуются экскурсии, которые проводят монахи, дамы и прислуга. По традиции в эту ночь ведутся поиски клада. Весь вечер в замке кипит жизнь, мероприятие заканчивается далеко за полночь.
